The Zika virus belongs to Flaviviridae, novel single-stranded, positive-sense RNA. Zika virus is believed to be transmitted to humans by infected Aedes spp. mosquitoes. Studies indicated that Zika virus has been endemic in Africa and Southeast Asia. The outbreak of Zika fever began in April 2015 in Brazil, and subsequently other countries in South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Zika has been known as an etiologic agent for microcephaly.
